about

I wrote this when I was a sophomore in high school.

lyrics

Born on Milk Street in Boston 1706
To Joe and Abby Franklin in a house of grey bricks.
Couldn't pay to go to graduate so he taught himself
By pulling book after book from the library shelf.
When he was twelve years old became apprenticed to his bro
Who taught him how to be a printer, but what James didn't know
Was that his little brother Ben had taken on a pseudonym
And was writing for the paper and being published by him.
So Ben left at seventeen and made his way down to Philly
Where he worked around city for a couple years until he
Took a boat across the ocean, lived in London for a while,
Then he traveled back to Philly in style.

"I wake up every morning at 9 and grab for the morning paper
Then I look at the obituary page
If my name's not on it…I get up"

In 1730 he was wed to Debbie Read.
It seemed her last name was a prophecy, and it came true, indeed.
He created the Library in 1731
To make books easier to get because READING IS FUN.
He was educated in all things both lyrical and empirical,
He published many papers, scientific and satirical,
In 33 he started up Poor Richard's Almanac,
And he cranked out more experiments than Newton on CRACK.

He was never the fuckin' president, so don't be mistaken.
He was a part of the enlightenment but not the great awakenin'.
He signed the declaration, was ambassador to France,
Had a love child; every girl wanted to get inside his pants.

He died on April 17th in 1790
but is survived by the titanic legacy he left behind
He was a scientist, an activist, a printer and a soldier.
He was the motherfuckin' man.
